CLUB HISTORY
The North Leicester MG Club (NLMGC) was founded in 2002, as an offshoot of the South Leicester MG Club (SLMGC). It was an amicable split which was assisted by the then secretary of the SLMGC.
Starting with an initial core of four ex-SLMGC members, eight more people joined us in that first year, some of whom had shown interest at the Beaumanor Hall Classic Car and Transport Show, when visiting the SLMGC stand. Of those original twelve members, many are still with the club.
Meetings have been held in various locations over the years, with some moves being necessitated by lack of space for the growing membership, which now stands at over eighty. Although most of our members live in the three boroughs of north Leicestershire, several come from the nearby counties of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
We have maintained contact with our South Leicester colleagues, occasionally competing against each other in various pub sports, such as skittles or darts, for the David Jarvis Trophy. We also attend each others' annual classic car runs: the South's Ratae Run and our own Charnwood Caper. |

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Each year, usually in May, the club organises a nationally advertised classic and sports car run. Called the CHARNWOOD CAPER, it is run over a distance of 60 or more miles, mainly along country lanes in Leicestershire and the surrounding counties.
We also organise several shorter runs throughout the year, for club members only. These are usually centred around a breakfast venue at the start, or a lunchtime venue at the finish.
We often display some of our club cars at classic vehicle shows and country fairs. Over the years, these have included the Beaumanor Hall Classic Car and Vehicle Show where we won the Best Club Stand trophy on several occasions, the Stamford Classic Car Show and Leicestershire County Show. Local classic car "meets" also give our members a reason to wash and polish their MGs.
Many of our members also take part in classic car runs organised by other MG clubs. These include the Ratae Run (organised by the South Leicester MG Club) and the Snowdon Run (organised by the LLandudno MG Owners' Club). In 2016, thirteen North Leicester MGs made the trip to North Wales. The Stilton Cheese Run, usually in May, is another favourite.
On the social front, we hold an annual New Year Dinner, in early January. We also organise several club weekends away each year. One favourite is to Llanerchindda Farm in the Brecon Beacons, where the hosts organise a couple of long runs around the hills and valleys, and another is to Whitby, from where some of our members organise runs around the moors and dales on two days of the mini-break.
Many of the pictures on the CLUB CARS pages show our members' cars taking part in organised events. |

CLUB ORGANISATION
We have a number of CLUB OFFICIALS who carry out the administrative functions and organise club activities. They are elected at the club AGM each year in February.
The club is affiliated to the MG Owners' Club and the MG Car Club. You do not need to be a member of either to be a member of the North Leicester MG Club, although many of us are. |
